Mt. Airy Philadelphia In-Home Daycare

Our Philosophy

Our warm and inviting home offers a healthy, safe, and stimulating environment for up to 12 children, ages 2 through 5 years. We strongly believe that being a part of a small, multi-age group is an ideal way for children to be given individual attention and to experience important social interactions with the other children. Our home-like setting with loving and caring adults encourages children to grow and learn through play, exploration, and discovery. Our children are given opportunities to build strong connections with the diverse environment we live in. We are committed to creating an atmosphere of emotional security and stability.

Our Waldorf inspired curriculum is based on the all areas of child development, including emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development. Our daily rhythm is created with attention to the children’s needs and interests. It is flexible enough to allow each child to grow and develop their individual talents and abilities at his or her own pace and without excessive stimulation.

As I work toward Waldorf certification, I strive to implement what I learn during our days at the Pollywog Pond. We offer plenty of interesting activities, both indoors and outdoors. Throughout the year, we love taking walks in Carpenter’s Woods and around the neighborhood in Mount Airy. The key components of our program are the natural environment and community involvement. We love nature, and this is what we want to teach our children by incorporating it into their daily routine.

Our teachers nurture children’s natural curiosity and deep desire to learn about the world around them, and encourage them to grow and develop through exploration and discovery.  They provide plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning experiences by taking into consideration physical, emotional, and developmental abilities of the children in care. They help children develop fine and gross motor skills and enhance child’s communication skills.

We encourage sharing, teamwork, creative decision making skills, self-expression, and conflict resolution behavior in our children. At our preschool, we teach respect of others, tolerance, and cultural diversity. We are dedicated to promote confidence, security, positive self-image, and self-esteem. We respect each child’s feelings, beliefs, cultural background, and lifestyle. We recognize that each child is unique and his or her contribution to the group is of high value and importance. We love our community and teach children about the significance of giving and being a part of their community.

At the Pollywog Pond, the children are exposed to the language, arts and crafts, counting, writing, reading, speaking and listening, science, and physical activities. The children are given opportunities to make choices about their own activities throughout the day. They constantly learn and explore while playing, making friends and having fun.

The parents are encouraged to get actively involved, express their feelings, and make suggestions. We invite all the parents to spend time at the Pollywog Pond and to make their own contribution to our program.
